Movies today have no soul

Why are movies today so bad? Somewhere writers have lost the art of genuine storytelling and character development. Movies like Weapons, The Substance and Shell are getting great reviews, but I find these films ridiculous. Did writers of today simply not experience real life and spend their days lost on social media? Am I the only one that feels this way?
