AC - Bug advice

Advice Needed

I live in a small studio apartment and have been in here since April this year, and up until I had to put in my window AC unit I had no issues with fruit flies, gnats, or regular house flies. I dealt with it for a while by using apple cider vinegar traps, Zevo lights, routinely cleaning my drains and covering them at night, not leaving food out, etc., but the amount of flies and fruit flies I was having to deal with just got absurd.

So, I concluded that my AC unit wasn't draining properly and spoke to my landlord who was amazing and offered to let me try her spare portable AC unit (LP1111WXRY1 11,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner / https://www.lg.com/us/air-conditioners/lg-LP1111WXR-portable-air-conditioner?srsltid=AfmBOoqYCBsv489CjbweyyrxkY8-hUcs0tv1NvMs-kqIKVl97lDjbYjO ) and that is where I would like some advice before I install it tomorrow!

I've never used one of these types of AC units before, so I'm wondering if anyone has some ideas or tips that worked for them on how to minimize bugs coming in? I live on the second floor of my building (no terrace/balcony), in case that is relevant. Would I be able to keep my window screen down, since it doesn't need to stick out the window? I also don't know how often I would need to/should drain it? The area I live in is usually between 80 - 90 degrees F with pretty high humidity, though our nights are quite cool.

Apologies if this sounds like a silly question to ask, but after researching myself I wanted to get some personalized advice from other people 😅. Thanks!!
