Tips on introducing 2 adult cats in a new space?
I’m moving in with my partner to a new apartment soon. We both have a cat that we are planning on introducing to the other’s cat and hopefully live with both cats together.
Most of what I’ve seen online for introducing two adult cats has to do with there being an established “resident cat” that’s already familiar with the space. But in my case, both cats would be new to the environment and each other. Is this a good idea? Should we just move one cat in first and then move the other cat in later?
For a little more context: my cat (11y/o female) can be pretty territorial when she feels her space is being encroached upon. A long time ago, she was introduced to another female cat and they got along well (even cuddling and grooming each other), but I think this was because my cat was the “newcomer” so she didn’t have an ego about a new cat intruding. Later on I introduced her to a female kitten and she HATED her (probably because she felt that she was the dominant cat and her space was being threatened). We ended up separating the two. She’s been ok living with boy cats in the past, but they were also male kittens - not male adults like this situation would be.
My partner’s cat (4 y/o male) is not territorial. He is pretty chill with other cats. So he is not really the problem, I am more worried about my own cat causing issues.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
