Accidentally got an adreneline rush from a build in public sample
So recently someone influential asked about projects on X. I just happened to be getting my ready for launch and put up a link without thinking much about it.
A day later I saw my reply got 2.8k views, but I didn't get any alerts about signups so I was pretty bummed out.
So out of curiosity I check out my analytics, got about a 20% click thru rate on that post.
So I discovered that - 1, my signals to monitor stuff was broken, 2 - had an auth bug that probably turned a bunch of people away, 3 - they wanted to a URL which took them to my login screen not home screen, and my login screen was bare bones.
And even with ALL that, my app converted about 5% of people who landed into signups.
Not huge numbers. But an accidental experiment that gave me a lot of hope. Normally I build stuff and try to promote it online and it feels like I'm that kid in the playground again playing by themselves, this time I felt the actual power of what a good post at the right time can do.
Kinda exited to see what happens next time with my app working!
