fixation on low birthrates in east Asian countries are subtle digs on Asian masculinity
low birthrates are a real issue affecting many developed countries and east Asian countries are often highlighted as the worst case. However there are quite a few European countries that have around the same fertility rate, but they are rarely highlighted. For example, Italy, Greece, and Spain are not too far behind China. China, Korea, and Japan will most likely handle the population crises better than other countries since they have the industrial capacity and knowledge to replace workers with robots. They even have the potential to attract immigrants if they are desperate enough, but right now they keep it highly regulated and controlled.
