Removing CPU Cooler after 4 years

I havent changed my thermal paste in 4 years and soon my new cpu will be arriving, i ordered a new cpu cooler but the thing is i feel like the thermal paste will be brittle and might not come on so i wanted some advice on how i could remove it safely
