Adding a Rain Sensor to My Irrigation System, Did It Actually Prevent Overwatering?

I added a rain sensor to my irrigation setup this spring because I got tired of seeing the sprinklers run right after a good rain. It always felt like I was wasting water for no reason.

I wasn't expecting a huge difference, but it's been pretty nice. After a decent rainfall, the system just skips the scheduled watering until things dry out. I don't have to remember to shut it off myself anymore.

One thing I learned is where you mount the sensor matters. Mine was tucked under a tree at first, so it barely caught any rain and kept watering like normal. Once I moved it to a more open spot, it worked way better.

I've also noticed fewer soggy spots around my flower beds. The soil stays moist without getting soaked, and the plants seem happier because they're not getting hit with extra water they don't need.

It's not one of those upgrades that makes your garden look cooler, but it definitely makes life easier. I still check my plants every few days because weather can be weird, but the sensor has taken a lot of the guesswork out of watering.

If your irrigation system runs on a schedule, I'd say it's a pretty smart little add on that can save water and help keep your garden in better shape.
