Is becoming a part-time insurance agent realistic while working as a union carpenter?

Resources / Guides

I’m looking into different ways to build an extra income stream and I’m curious if anyone has experience becoming a part-time insurance agent.
I’m currently a union carpenter, so my schedule can be demanding, and I also do Uber on the side when I have free time. I’m wondering if selling insurance is something that can realistically be done part-time, or if it’s one of those businesses where you basically need to treat it like a full-time job to actually make money.
If it helps or matters, I used to work in retail and wait tables, so I’m pretty comfortable talking to people, building rapport, and dealing with different personalities. I’d consider myself pretty social, but I’m not sure how much that translates into being successful in insurance sales.
For anyone who started part-time: How long did it take before you made your first commission?
How many hours per week were you putting in?
Is it realistic to build a book of business while keeping another job?
How much does being naturally social help in this field?
Would you recommend it compared to other side hustles?
I’m interested in something that could eventually grow into a bigger income stream, but I don’t want to sacrifice my main job or fitness goals.
Appreciate any advice from people who have actually done it.
