Thinking about removal
Not to sound like a broken record from many other posts on here, but I'm considering getting my IUD out soon. Would love to hear from others about their experience post-removal and see if its actually worth entertaining the idea of removing it. (I don't have a current doctor and I live with my parents that are pretty strict about this sort of thing, so I need to be pretty sure before I make any decisions/appointments, if that makes sense).
For context: I got Mirena 3 1/2 years ago and I loved it at first. Super easy insertion and (relatively) painless. I had super irregular bleeding for the next 6 weeks but went like 2 years without getting any sort of period. It's been a successful method of preventing pregnancy and I'm grateful that I haven't had to stress or think about it whatsoever.
However, recently I've started to realize that my body has changed a lot in the last few years. I knew this while it was changing in real time, but I just narrowed down that I think this can be mainly attributed to my IUD. For a while, I just assumed it was the stress of being a student, moving, my previous eating disorder coming back into my life, etc. But now that my life is in a relatively good place and my ED back under control, I have nothing else to turn to the cause of my weight gain/resistance.
I know they say weight gain isn't a side effect of Mirena but I've read too many stories like mine to believe that's fully true. Has anyone dealt with anything similar? Did you ever remove it? Did you experience any crash symptoms? Did you get on any other type of birth control afterward that has lighter symptoms?
Appreciate any and all experiences!
