The Bible Is a Book Full of Myths: Sodom and Gomorrah

Venting

Ahhh the bible and its myths.

There is no scientifically proven archaeological evidence that Sodom and Gomorrah are the cities mentioned in Genesis, nor any evidence that a deity brought about their destruction.

That there are ruins burnt to the ground only prove the existence of burnt cities. There is no evidence of the involvement of angels, divine retribution, heavenly fire, or a woman becoming salt.

Additionally, the narrative disproves the theory of a just God since Abraham needs to ask if the God will punish the innocent together with the guilty. God still destroys whole cities, regardless of children being present, while saving Lot, a man who had offered his daughters to a crowd.

Abraham's wife died because she looked back, but Lot lived, became drunk, and impregnated his two daughters.

Please, stop right there and think: a woman dies just because she wants to look back at her home, while a man sleeps with his two daughters without any problems, he goes scot-free.

What kind of justice, coherence, or moral superiority does this demonstrate?

Perhaps a natural catastrophe could be the basis of the story. All the supernatural elements of the tale were created by people who tried to rationalize the destruction through a wrathful God.

Even if archeology finds actual ruins, it could only help to understand the origin of the myth. But that cannot make the myth real.
