I bought a lotion online, but I got a message from the seller

Basically, I got this lotion/moisturizer which is from a brand I love. They had a special collection about 1-2 years ago, and I found that lotion being sold on Mercari for a good price with some extra goodies. I bought it since I liked the brand, but I just noticed the seller messaged me saying the expiration date on the lotion was 3 months ago. It's a new product and I already paid for it. Should I cancel the purchase or just go through with it? Is it ok to use lotion past the expiration date?
