Title: Burning in vaginal dilator after pelvic brachy– will this get better?
I’m about 6 months out from pelvic radiation and vaginal brachytherapy for endometrial cancer. I also had a hysterectomy with my ovaries removed, so I’m in surgical menopause at 32.
I’ve been using my vaginal dilator as instructed, but I have a burning sensation deep inside on the left side of my vagina. It only happens when the dilator is moving against that area, and the burning stops once I remove the dilator.
I’m worried this could be scar tissue or radiation changes. Has anyone experienced something similar?
If you did:
Did it improve with time?
If you’ve had penetrative sex after radiation, did it feel the same as the dilator or was it more comfortable?
I’m feeling anxious that this means sex will always be painful, so I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s been through something similar.
Thank you.
