Baby reacts with hives to EVERYTHING.

Not age-related

Hi, was wondering if anyone has experience with this and could lend some advice.

My baby reacts with hives wherever food touches her skin, and this includes ALL foods. Meat, nuts, egg, beans, fruit, sauces, literally everything. They can be quite severe and if it gets on her hands and she rubs her eyes, her eyes swell up. I understand this sounds like a serious allergic reaction but that’s where things get even more complicated.

The hives never spread beyond her face, and there’s no respiratory/breathing issues like coughing or wheezing, no vomiting, no other symptoms. The most noteworthy thing is that I can feed her these foods no problem, as long as it goes directly into her mouth. If even a crumb gets on her skin or she drools a bit out, it causes hives.

What’s concerning is that we have done allergy bloodwork and she’s positive for essentially everything. We have Auvi-Q and are working with an allergist, who has said that as long as the symptoms don’t escalate, we should continue feeding her these foods. However, she also has pretty bad eczema.

It seems like the two lines of thought are: continue feeding her these foods, but avoiding her skin, in order to maintain her tolerance, per her allergist’s advice. This is difficult since almost every single meal can go sideways if it’s messy at all, and also, I feel pretty certain that they’re flaring up her eczema.

The other option is to go on an extreme elimination diet and avoid all foods that cause hives, so that her immune system can be given a break and get her eczema under control, but then risk developing more serious food allergies over time.

Not sure if it’s worth mentioning but she has MSPI too 🫩 This is so scary and exhausting and I feel lost. BLW was something I was most looking forward to as a first time mom and here we are.

Thank you in advance.
