Now I’m not talking about a jumpscare that frightened you for a few seconds!

I mean a scene, image or a sound that stayed in your mind for years and that you still find yourself thinking about or trying to understand why it affected you so much. 🥲

For me, when I really think about it, it all comes back to the **Clock Tower** series.
In the second game on the PlayStation 1, you play as a school girl who arrive at a relative’s empty house. You go into the bathroom and find a leg sticking out of the toilet and a torso floating in the bathtub. 😭

It didn’t look realistic at all. The graphics were obviously old and those body parts looked like they belonged to a doll, but the idea itself was more than enough to stay with me as a child. Then the phone suddenly rings and you answer and there is only breathing on the other side 🫠
There was also a scene where cupboards opens and dishes starts flying at you until they killed you…

BUT the scariest was the game cover.. it alone was enough to terrify a child.
( you know back then you just watch the older kids in the family play horror or not 🥲 )

Then there was **Clock Tower 3**.

I found it a little less frightening, but much more emotionally upsetting. I was a teenage girl playing as a teenage girl, while all those disturbing serial killer monsters with tragic and horrible backstories were chasing me 🥲

The scene that affected me most was the little girl playing the piano… if you’ve watched this before you know the emotional heaviness it created 😭
That big serial killer monster attacks her with a mallet, and thankfully you don’t actually see the moment it happens, but you hear her scream then she falls down the stairs, dead, and he is standing behind her! 😭

I remember thinking: what were they thinking when they made this scene? It scared me, but more than that, it made me feel deeply sad for her 😕
And don’t get me started on the other freaking monsters chasing you in this game, the acid guy ? The twins ? The cemetery one who keeps saying “ you can’t get away” “ALIIIIISAAAA” that game was pure horror !!

I wanna say that some of the replies could obviously involve disturbing scenes and spoilers, so keep that in mind before reading through them. But these things exist in games, and I think it’s interesting to talk about the lasting emotional effect they can have, especially when we experienced them long time ago.

So with that what scene stayed with you, and why do you think it affected you deeply?

What scene in a game genuinely scared you in a way that stayed with you for years?
