Repair my car or get into something newer??
Reddit might hate this post with my choice of cars… I currently have a paid off 2018 Grand Cherokee with 102k miles that needs a head gasket job. The jeep has the 3.6 V6. This car really fits all my needs by being comfortable, has a lot of room, and towing capabilities. I got an appraisal on the car for $11k from CarMax… I am torn about whether to drop the money into the repair and other maintenance stuff due (a lot I will do myself), or get into a different vehicle??? I have a 2012 Accord V6 that I drive to work and local driving. It’s a beater and I try to avoid the interstates with this thing as much as I can.
Im looking for vehicle with a lot of space for tools and all that, comfortable to drive on long trips, and can tow a boat.
The price of used vehicles is shockingly high and I really don’t want to drop a ton of money to get a different ride. I did find a few trucks and Grand Cherokees that would fit my needs and in a price range I can stomach. Some are Grand Cherokees with the 5.7 V8. There’s two Ram 1500 nearby that check all the boxes. One has the basic 5.7 V8 and the other has the 5.7 with eTorque. Both of these trucks have 90k miles on them. I’m not sure if it’s worth getting into a truck with that engine with that many miles on it??
I’ve also found a few Ram 2500 with the 6.4. Those have 150K and I was not sure about the longevity. There’s a bunch of F-250 with a variety of miles, but I have never owned a diesel.
I am open to any other suggestions you might have! Maybe there’s a different car out there that fits my needs.
