How do you actually know when a script is ready to send out versus when you are just tired of looking at it
Asking because I genuinely cannot tell the difference right now.
Finished a feature draft last month. Did two passes, fixed the things I knew were wrong, sent it to a trusted reader. Got notes, addressed most of them, did another pass. It reads clean now and I cannot find anything obviously broken when I go through it.
But I also cannot tell if that means it is ready or if I have just read it so many times that I am no longer seeing it properly. There is a version of done that is actually done and a version of done that is just exhaustion wearing the costume of confidence and I am not sure which one I am in.
The specific fear is sending something out that has a problem I stopped being able to see because I was too close to it. But the other fear is sitting on something that is genuinely ready because I keep finding reasons to do one more pass.
How do people here make this call. Is there a test you use or a signal you look for that actually tells you the difference between a script that needs more work and a writer who needs to let go.
