Title: Preparing for possible bowel accidents during a long trip – product recommendations needed
Hi everyone,
I have ulcerative colitis, and I had been in remission for about six years. Unfortunately, it now seems to be flaring up again at the worst possible time.
In ten days, I am flying to Thailand for a three-and-a-half-week trip that I cannot cancel. I am already feeling extremely overwhelmed and anxious about the situation. Based on my previous experience, I am worried that the diarrhoea could become severe by then, possibly with sudden urgency up to 20 times a day. There may also be blood, although I do not know yet how bad the flare will become.
I still want to go on the trip, so I am trying to prepare as well as possible for situations where I may not be able to reach a toilet in time. This is especially concerning during the flight, airport transfers, long bus journeys or situations where a toilet is unavailable or not working.
Could anyone recommend suitable products for bowel incontinence or severe diarrhoea?
I would especially appreciate advice about:
-Adult diapers or protective underwear that work well for bowel accidents
-Fecal incontinence pads or inserts
-Plastic or waterproof pants that help contain leaks and reduce odour
-Products suitable for several hours on a plane or bus
-Odour-control products
-Wet wipes, barrier creams, powders or anything else that should be included in a travel kit
How many supplies I should realistically bring for a three-and-a-half-week trip
My main concern is having an accident during a bus journey or flight and not being able to clean up immediately. I would like to reduce the risk of leakage and odour as much as possible.
I have never had to use incontinence products before, so I genuinely do not know which types or brands would be appropriate for liquid stool and sudden bowel urgency. Tell me exactly what brands and products please (I live in Austria if thats important)
Any practical advice, product recommendations or travel experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
