Recently travelled to Delhi and honestly how do you people breathe?

I was on a trip to Srinagar and had a layover in Delhi, I kid you not, as soon as the plane entered delhi, it just smelled like something was burning, everyone was coughing, and the air felt genuinely bad, how do people of Delhi live in such a place?
