Topstep liquidated my 50 MNQ position and closed my account at $0. Possible risk-system error?
I’m looking to see if anyone else has experienced something similar with Topstep.
All my signals were giving a buying opportunity last night so I bought MNQ contracts with an average entry around 29,620. My account was closed when the balance reached $0 and my entire position was forcibly liquidated.
The issue is that I had never taken a payout from this account (150k XFA). Based on the risk limits I understood to apply to my account, I believed I still had a loss threshold of approximately -$4,500 rather than the account being closed at $0.
I contacted Topstep support and disputed the liquidation. The case has now been escalated to Level 2, and I was told I should hear back within 1 to 2 business days.
I also asked to speak with a supervisor. Surprisingly, I was told that would also take 1 to 2 business days.
The part that makes this especially painful is what happened afterward.
My entry: approximately 29,620 MNQ
Current price this morning: approximately 29,760
Position: 50 MNQ contracts
That is a 140-point move, which represents approximately $14,000 in potential profit on 50 MNQ contracts. Price moved higher without any major pullback after my position was liquidated.
I understand that unrealized profit is not the same as realized profit, and nobody can prove exactly where I would have exited. My main concern is whether the account should have been liquidated at $0 in the first place.
If this turns out to have been a system or account-calculation defect, what would you consider a reasonable resolution?
Account reinstatement with the correct balance?
Reversal of the liquidation loss?
Compensation for some or all of the financial impact?
Has anyone here had Topstep acknowledge an incorrect liquidation or risk-limit error? If so, how did they resolve it?
I’ll update this post when Level 2 support responds.
