How to tell my therapist I might need weekly sessions at this time of my life
Sorry if this isn’t the right place to ask, but I’d really appreciate some CBT-focused input.
I’m a 48M and I’ve been doing online CBT therapy for about 7 months. Last month my therapist changed our sessions from weekly to bi-weekly, and my therapist said it was to test whether I might be developing therapeutic dependence.
Lately I’ve been struggling more. I think the weekly sessions were a better fit for me, especially because a lot has been building up in my life right now. I want to ask to go back to weekly sessions, but I’m worried that it’ll come across like I’m depending on therapy rather than just needing more support during a difficult time.
How can I communicate that I need help now (and that I’m working on skills to handle things) without framing it as “I can’t cope without therapy”? Any wording suggestions or CBT-relevant perspective would be really helpful.
