Got speech therapy as a child but didn’t get diagnosed as autistic
I’m wondering if anyone else experienced this? I had a lisp as a child, but didn’t get my official diagnosis at 19 (I was in school when I got recommended one but had to wait for the adult diagnosis).
I got some speech therapy, I have a vague memory of a woman holding up cards in front of me, but I barely remember any of it so I must have been very young. I also got a surgery for grommet inserted in me…I don’t know if that’s related at all, but I remember my mother complaining about my hearing and I think they thought I might have hearing issues. I just remember going to the Doctor for different things, but they didn’t clock my autism until I started hitting my teen years (they guessed ADHD in school but I didn’t get diagnosed with it) and wasn’t socially developing at the same pace as my peers. I’m just wondering if this happened to anyone, because my parents keep saying I was a ‘normal’ child but I remember all this stuff happening.
