[TLDR] Guys, don't believe the Codex hype - the Codex subreddit is deleting hundreds of complaint posts - see proof in post. [via r/ClaudeCode]
OP : u/-Sliced-
The Codex subreddit moderators are removing almost all complaints about Codex - you can see them all here for yourself.
OpenAI pulled a really sleazy move and reduced tokens available per plan by 70% (!) acting like nothing has happened. In order to hide that, they removed all token usage charts to hide it. Everybody is also noticing the over designed and complicated code the model create, tendency for catastrophic deletion and more. I suggest that if you are considering moving to Codex, just wait a couple of weeks and monitor the deleted posts link I posted here to see that they've actually resolved the issues. This wasn't like that before the launch.
I'm a $200/month subscriber to Codex + a top 1% commenter on the Codex subreddit, but the 5.6 launch is making me really root for Anthropic - if they keep Fable in permanently, I'll switch immediately.

Alright, so the general vibe in this thread is a lot of people are fed up with OpenAI's Codex and are seriously considering switching to Claude, especially if Anthropic keeps Fable permanently.
Here's the lowdown:
- Codex Complaints Galore: OP is calling out Codex for allegedly deleting complaint posts and reducing token availability by 70% without telling anyone. While some users agree with the sentiment about Codex's issues (overly complex code, catastrophic deletion tendencies), there's a split on the token reduction claim. Some users say their usage hasn't changed, while others confirm they've hit limits way faster than before.
- Fable is the Darling: The consensus seems to be that Fable is currently the top-tier model, with many users praising its design, architecture, and planning capabilities. Some even say it's superior to Opus 4.8.
- Sol vs. Fable Debate: There's a decent amount of back-and-forth comparing Sol (Codex's latest) and Fable.
- Some users find Sol to be faster and more economical, with usage limits that feel more generous or even "bottomless" for some. They argue that even if Sol is slightly less capable, the cost-effectiveness makes it a good deal.
- Others strongly disagree, stating Fable is significantly better, especially for complex tasks and design. A few users reported Sol making issues worse or being incredibly expensive for basic tasks.
- Tribalism is Dumb: A recurring theme is that people shouldn't be so brand-loyal. Competition is good for consumers, and users should just use whatever tool works best for them.
- Anthropic's Value Proposition: Many commenters root for Anthropic because they're seen as the underdog offering better value, especially if Fable remains a permanent fixture.
- Subreddit Moderation Woes: There's a side discussion about the Codex subreddit's moderation, with some suggesting the mods are heavy-handed or perhaps not understanding user feedback.
- The "AI Wars" are Here: Basically, we're in the AI equivalent of console wars, and it's a good time to be a user as companies compete.
