We tracked 1,941 leveraged signals to resolution over 3 months. The "strongest" setups lost the most, and being late predicted losses better than being wrong

We run a signal engine on crypto perps (indicator presets + an AI review layer). Last month I sat down with three months of resolved signals — 1,941 of them, every one tracked to TP, stop, or expiry — expecting to learn which indicators mattered most. That is not what the data said. Two findings genuinely changed how I look at entries:

1. Lateness predicted losses better than direction.

For every signal we log how much price had already moved in the trade's direction at the moment of entry. Entries with less than ~1% of the move already done were solidly profitable. At 2–3% pre-entry drift the average outcome flipped to roughly −6% per trade, and past 3–4% it approached −11%. Same setups, same coins, same targets — the only variable was how much of the move was already gone before entry. Chasing isn't a discipline problem, it's a math problem.

2. The strongest-looking setups were the worst trades.

Every signal gets a 0–100 confluence score. Performance climbed with score up to ~75–80, then collapsed — the 80+ bucket had the highest stop-out rate of anything we track. Obvious in hindsight: by the time every indicator agrees, everyone is already positioned, and late entries become someone else's exit liquidity. We ended up capping our own "very strong" label because it was actively anti-predictive (profit factor 0.88 vs a 1.56 system baseline).

The uncomfortable summary: most losing trades weren't wrong about direction. They were late and over-confirmed.

Because everyone (me included) keeps making these exact two mistakes on their own open positions, we turned the checks into a free "position doctor": paste a Hyperliquid wallet address, or drop a screenshot of your open positions from any exchange, and it grades each position A–F — entry quality vs the 30-day range, multi-timeframe technicals, and what tracked top leaderboard traders are currently doing in that coin. Free with a login, a few checks per day (the AI calls cost real money): https://traderspy.app/doctor

Full disclosure: I'm one of the builders, and I'm posting because I want reactions, not to sell anything. Mostly curious whether the grades match what you already suspected about your own positions — and what "this trade was doomed from entry" tells you'd add to the rubric.
