Steam deck black screen with fans blowing and haptics working
Steam support was very quick to dump me into the "you're warranty is expired, so for $200 you can send it to our guys and they'll try to fix it but if they can't we will give you back your broken toy." So im reaching out to the redditverse for help.
I've had a similar issue before, and I know the culprit is caused by the Deck being charged on too weak of a charger and it has happened again. I sent it to them while I had the warranty and they fixed it for the shipping cost after going through extensive troubleshooting methods with me. Sans warranty, it seems I'm on my own.
I have gotten as far as letting it die completely (a day and half of making sure I could hear the fan running until it wasn't any longer and I could get a beep put of it by powering it on) charging it for a day. That didn't work so I tried to 10s power button reset, no improvement. I then reached out to steam support.
They had me try to reset BIOS/firmware with the volume down (-) + ... button + single power button push. It went into this process, with the white LED light flashing. They said it would take about 2 minutes, and then should boot up. The light continued flashing with no boot up for about 20 minutes. I reached out to them and let them know, and they told me to ship and hope for the best.
Does anyone have any suggestions of where to go from here? I just ordered a dock which should arrive later today so I can see if it's functional, but any suggestions in the meantime?
I tried the Volume up (+) + power button function to try and enter BIOS but that one didn't work, or I at least didn't get any results from it.
My Deck was a gift from my wife and is a godsend to get me through long slow night shifts. I can't go back to the rinky dink switch so any help at all will be vastly appreciated!
