Birdhouse runs on Fossil Island are one of the consistent, profitable passive money makers in Old School RuneScape. While some players simply look at thier current Hunter level to meet birdhouse building requirements, utilizing Super Hunter Potions provides a massive advantage that is currently overlooked by players in the community. Beyond just helping you reach the milestone to build a specific birdhouse tier, boosting your level with these potions actively increases your overall nest drop rates in several distinct ways. It affects everything from seed nests to eggs and clue scrolls, which I will break down in detail below.

Costs

A full Super Hunter Potion (4) currently costs around 650 coins on the Grand Exchange, which breaks down to an incredibly cheap 162 coins per dose, especially when you consider that regular Hunter Potions cost around 500 to 600 coins and simply cannot compete since they only give a +3 boost. The Super version is vastly more cost-effective per dose for your runs.

How Hunter Levels Scale Birdhouse Loot

Your current or boosted Hunter level directly dictates your success rate when clearing birdhouses. The drop rate for a Bird nest (seeds) scales linearly with your Hunter level. It starts under 10% at low levels and climbs up to roughly 80% at level 99. Adding +6 levels significantly pushes you up this curve.

When a birdhouse is emptied, the game rolls 10 times on the other nest table for things like jewellery, eggs, and clues. Below level 50, the success rate is flat and low, but after level 50, the curve spikes sharply upward for all tiers of birdhouses. Interestingly, the formula counts boosted levels even if you are already level 99. Boosting your Hunter level to 105 increases the expected number of nests per birdhouse, making it highly attractive for players hunting for rare God Eggs or Clue Nests.

Financial Viability: Does it Make Sense to Sip?

Mathematically, the answer is a resounding yes. A single dose costs only about 162 coins, while an average bird nest fetches about 4,500 coins right now on the GE. If the +6 boost yields even one single extra nest over several runs, it pays for your potion supply dozens of times over. You should definitely drink a dose of Super Hunter Potion before emptying your birdhouses to maximize your profit and nest yield.
