Noisy roofers
The new buyers of the other property of our semi-detached have arranged to have their roof redone. They told us the work would be 6 weeks from 8am to 3pm. They are not living in the property while the work is being done.
I work from home and am also caring for my baby (under 6 months) and my dog.
They’ve been working for 3 days. So far they have started each day before 8 o’clock and woken us up. We live in the south of the UK so obviously it is necessary to have windows open during the night and day due to the heat.
Today they have been levelling out the top roof - 3 storeys high. They have been throwing what look like large metal slabs and tiles directly from the roof into a skip, this is very noisy - rattling my front door - and also seems quite dangerous?
There has been a strong solvent smell which has filtered into my baby’s room.
-
What are the rules for starting work before the agreed time?
-
How noisy are they allowed to be while doing the work?
-
Do they have to take into account our circumstances ie me working from home, the baby and the hot weather?
-
Are they allowed to just chuck stuff off the roof into a skip with no protections? We are worried about damage to our house and injury to our dog as the work will take place on both sides of the house including the garden.
-
Can I ask them to warn me when they will use solvents near the baby’s room?
I tried speaking to them but they just dismissed me as a Karen.
Thanks in advance of any help.
