$META is expanding its Richland Parish, Louisiana data center to 5GW of compute capacity, lifting the announced investment to over $50B from the original $10B plan.

Meta formed a joint venture with Blue Owl Capital funds for the Hyperion data center in Louisiana, where Blue Owl owns 80% and Meta holds 20%, with the JV entity (Beignet Investor) owning the asset.

According to a Bloomberg report, the total site could cost up to $250B when including chips, though Meta has only publicly disclosed $50B.

Meta also plans $1B+ in local infrastructure improvements and says the site will support 1,000+ roles once operational.

Meta oversees construction and operations but effectively rents the facility through lease payments to the JV, using a structure that keeps the \\\~$27 billion in project debt off its balance sheet via special purpose vehicle financing.

The arrangement includes an initial four-year lease term with renewal options, allowing Meta to exit periodically while shifting much of the ownership, debt, and associated risks to Blue Owl and its investors.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
