Recently diagnosed partner, any helpful advice?
As the title mentions my partner has ADHD and recently diagnosed with ASD. I'm mainly posting here to ask for advice on the most helpful things from someone who has Autism and is in or had a relationship. To be quite honest, we've had our own separate battles with mental health before the relationship, so our relationship has functioned really healthily even before diagnosis. When we found out we had a bit of a celebration day I got him a game he's been wanting and we had some of his favorite food. It was just nice to have the answer to a few of our questions.
I've always been really good at picking up the nonverbal cues he gives that signify his emotions or whether he's in an overwhelmed or even overstimulated state and do my best to help with those situations. I do lead most moments of communication but we've worked to the point where he's openly and honestly participating. I do think we have a lot of stuff working for us, but I thought it'd be best to ask from those who have had more time to figure out helpful advice and tactics. The main question is what has worked best for you guys?
