WhatsApp Extortion

I was targeted in a WhatsApp sextortion scam by someone calling himself Sandy Nguyen and his phone number is: +919515968901. He first claimed he was in Germany and had dialed my number by mistake while trying to reach a friend in India. Over time, he built trust by sharing personal stories about a child named “Elle” and future travel plans to the Philippines—plans I even helped with by looking for accommodations. After manipulating me into believing we were in a romantic relationship, he pressured me to send private videos. Once he had them, he threatened to send the videos to my family and friends unless I paid 5,000 pesos.

I blocked him immediately and deactivated my social media accounts. I also filed a report with the IC3 and attempted to report to my local police. I’m sharing this to seek justice and to prevent others from going through the same humiliation.

If this happens to you:

  • Do not panic and do not pay. Payment rarely stops the threats—it often leads to more demands.
  • Cut contact. Block the number on WhatsApp and any other platform they use.
  • Lock down privacy. Enable two-step verification on WhatsApp and update privacy settings so only contacts can see your photo, status, and last seen.
  • Preserve evidence. Take screenshots of chats, phone numbers, payment requests, and any profiles used. Do not delete the conversation until you’ve documented it.
  • Report it. File with the IC3 (if applicable), your local cybercrime unit, and report the account in-app on WhatsApp. In the Philippines, you can also report to the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group.
  • Tell trusted contacts. If they do send anything, your friends and family will be less likely to be fooled or to engage. Shame is what scammers rely on—don’t carry this alone.

This is not the end of the world. Scammers exploit fear and urgency. Your safety and wellbeing matter more than any private image. Protect yourself, report them, and move forward.
