What is canon excuse for Caliban?

As above, destruction of chapter homeworld and disappearence of Primarch isn't something that should be possible to just ignore, and as other Primarch were around at this point, there would be questions. So what was excuse for that?

I can imagine some 'Traitor legion forces took Caliban, there was battle but it turned bad" but is it confirmed somewhere?
