Beyond the viral "Viking Row" by Norway at the World Cup, what are some other unique, culture-specific visual spectacles in sports that you've witnessed live?
Looking at the viral "imaginary Viking longboat" rowing celebration by Norwegian fans at the World Cup got me thinking. It is such a unique, visually stunning nod to their heritage. It's a pity they were eliminated in the quarter-finals, so we won't see the ritual for some time yet.
I am not interested in grading these or ranking which country has the "best" or superior tradition. I am just fascinated by the pure spectacle of it all.
What are some other highly specific, country-infused sports celebrations or crowd rituals that come to mind?
Ideally, I am looking for things that:
- Feel deeply tied to a nation's history, folklore, or identity.
- Are a true visual spectacle when you see them on screen or in person.
- Go beyond standard chants or flag-waving.
What have you witnessed that blew you away?
