New to corporate. Is this normal? Advice?
Hi,
I started a new job 2 weeks ago at a large corpo. I’ve come from a TOTALLY different world, so adjusting has been… difficult.
Yesterday, I was in a meeting sharing some of my work. There were a few people present, including a manager, and their senior.
The manager tore me to shreds over my work in front of everyone. Interrupting me to say where it wasn’t good from about 20 seconds in.
Later, they reached out to me in private, giving me glowing praise for the exact same work. Not acknowledging the shredding. It felt like it was two different people.
I understand people do things to forward their own agenda. But how common is this?
More importantly, any advice on how to deal with situations like this?
Extra info:
- This isn’t the first issue I’ve had with them - theres something with every engagement.
- There’s no one I can trust / talk to here yet. Actually, I feel totally isolated.
- I also don’t have the option to avoid this person.
