Building an App That Automatically Starts Cleaning When Everyone Leaves the House
I am building a web based app that, for now, has a very well defined purpose: start a Roborock cleaning cycle when I leave the house and stop it when I return.
I know this can be automated fairly easily, and there are already many solutions available, ranging from simple setups to more complex automations.
However, I think this app would offer a couple of core features that are harder to replicate with DIY solutions:
- Define a group of people for geofencing and start cleaning only when everyone has left the house. As soon as someone returns home, the robot stops.
- Add a reasoning layer that determines whether the robot should start cleaning, continue from where it left off, and decide the order in which rooms should be cleaned.
Beyond that, I have a few additional ideas:
- Vacuum first and then mop, using either a different map or specific zones for each task.
For now, geofencing would work only on iOS by using the Shortcuts app to trigger a webhook. I would definitely be a regular user of this app myself.
How does this sound?
I originally started by exploring an iOS app, so I set up a landing page at awayclean.com. The content is outdated now, but it still tells a similar story.
