Stuck in the 80s for four years—then one putting change broke me through. What finally did it for you?
Four years of grinding. Lessons, range sessions, YouTube rabbit holes at midnight, two different fitting sessions. Stuck between 83 and 87 like it was a law of physics.
Last month something clicked with my putting. Not a technique overhaul, nothing dramatic. Just started paying attention to where I was actually looking at address instead of going through a routine on autopilot. My lag putting got weirdly better almost overnight and the threeputts that were quietly killing every round just stopped happening as much.
Shot 79 last Saturday on a course that has eaten me alive for years. Stood on 18 needing twoputt from about 25 feet, made a smooth first putt to tapin range and that was it.
The ball striking is still inconsistent if I'm being honest. Still hit a couple of ugly ones per round. But apparently you can score decently when you stop gifting holes away on the greens.
Curious if other people had one specific thing that finally punched through a scoring plateau like that. Not looking for a tip thread, just wondering if the experience is common where it's one small thing and then suddenly the ceiling breaks.
