A lot of people disagree to feel original
It seems like if something doesn't line up with their reality, they can't see beyond their own perspective. It's as if any viewpoint that challenges their experience automatically has to be wrong. Sometimes it also feels like a power thing. They feel more important or intellectually superior by always taking the opposing side. Others seem stuck in an "I can't conform to society" mindset, where agreeing with the majority feels like losing their individuality.
The irony is that being different isn't the same as thinking critically. Constantly disagreeing doesn't automatically make someone open-minded or independent. In fact, if your default position is to reject whatever most people believe, you're still letting other people dictate your opinions. Real independent thinking means being willing to agree or disagree based on the evidence, not because it makes you feel unique.
