Matchmaking often puts 6-8 players on one side and only 1 on the other

How can it be so ridiculously bad? Think about it: When there are 5 players on one side and 1 on the other, how in the world can matchmaking go “Hmmm, 5 on one side and only 1 on the other. I’ll add this guy to the 5 so it becomes 6 vs. 1 😃
