Birdfy (original) comes on then goes off seconds later

Original birdfy (blue house) worked fine for 2 years 2 months (actually only in use for 10 of those months, stored the other months). A few weeks ago, it disconnected from wifi and now it just randomly comes on (single chime and blue light) and then goes off (light goes off, descending chime noises) several times a day. A couple of times in the past 2 weeks, we have been able to connect it to network but connection only lasts for a few minutes. We have updated the app, tried a different wifi network (2.5G), pushed the reset button numerous times (for short 3 seconds, longer 15 seconds), confirmed it is fully charged (on one of the occasions we got connected for a couple of minutes), etc. Support has not been helpful. And we are out of warranty so no best that birdfy will do is discount on new unit. Looking to see if anyone has any other suggestions ?
