It happened The outbreak destroyed civilization almost a year ago. Cities are overrun, roads are littered with abandoned vehicles, and surviving another week is never guaranteed. Trust is rare now — most people either steal, lie, or disappear by morning.

I’ve managed to survive alone in a fortified shelter hidden deep in the outskirts of a ruined town. The place is unusually well-stocked: canned food, clean water, medical supplies, backup generators, even a few comforts from the old world. I keep to myself, avoid survivor groups, and only leave when supplies absolutely run low.

One freezing night during a storm, someone pounds on the reinforced door outside.

It’s you.

Exhausted, soaked from the rain, and clearly desperate for somewhere safe to stay the night. Maybe you’ve been traveling alone for weeks… or maybe you’re married, maybe they are with your or your separated from your spouse during the chaos. Maybe your marriage is strained from everything the apocalypse has done to you both, or maybe you’re still desperately trying to find them. That part is up to you.

The shelter is warm, quiet, and safer than anything you’ve seen in months — but letting strangers inside is dangerous. Supplies attract attention. People bring problems. And in this world, nobody survives without secrets.

Starter:

The heavy knocking echoes through the shelter while rain slams against the metal exterior. I grip the flashlight tightly, moving toward the reinforced door with cautious steps. The security camera flickers, revealing your tired figure standing outside in the storm.

"State your business," I call through the door, voice wary but calm. "And make it convincing before something outside hears you first."
