Oopsy - a well intentioned disaster
My neighbour replaced our shared (but legally mine given our half was sold off by the council first) fence, a few years back and now I've come to find, after clearing some water of space shrubs from my side and replacing with mini fruit trees, the bottom of the panels is already going a bit rotten in places. So I told them around April time that at some point I'd put concrete gravel boards in to protect the panels and lift them to the top of the posts. OK.
Shifting forwards to last Friday and I have a burst of redundancy enthusiasm and go buy the boards and in 34 degrees sun get 4 in as per picture. I then swanned off to watch some county cricket.
Later that evening enjoying a beer or 5, the wife texts me to advise the neighbours are not happy. I did not realise they had, in time for that last England world cup game but some strings of cheap and cheerful solar lights all along the top of the fence. So every time I hoiked a panel up high enough to get a board in at an angle, I ripped the wires out of the bulbs.
Oopsy.
He'd come round fuming, somehow thinking it was malicious, but my wife opened the door to him, cute kitten in hand and smothered him with kindness and smiles. And off he went, placated because my wife is awesome.
I could have said I had advised them I was going to, but they already said they'd presumed I wasn't actually going to bother (Ahh man they have no Idea how ADHD works!), so I extended the wife's kindness route, and rather than paying them the money to buy new ones, I went all the way to B&M to get exact replacements the same day, and seems like we averted falling out even more.
Well, I'm off to put some more in, and she said she'd have removed the last remaining working one by now, so wish me luck!
