My husband and I can’t break this communication pattern

Seeking Advice

Hello I am a 27f married to a 29m. We have been married for about 3 years.
We dated for about 1.5 before getting married.

My husband is incredibly generous and devoted. Right now I’m living in his country, I’m not working while I recover from some health issues and build my business, and he has insisted that I focus on healing rather than stressing about money.
He pays our bills, handles taxes, manages a lot of practical responsibilities, and takes amazing care of me in many ways.

I cook most of our meals, take care of the apartment, manage the household during the day, We generally work well as a team.

My problem is that since we have been together we have had this same fight over and over again and I don’t know how to resolved it.

My husband is naturally very proactive. If he sees a better way to do something, he wants to tell me. If he thinks I’m forgetting something important, he’ll remind me. If he thinks I’m making a decision that could have a bad outcome, he’ll try very hard to convince me to choose differently.

His intention is genuinely to help. I don’t question that.

But sometimes It makes me feel like a kid. He even admitted and in an argument that he feels like he has to manage me and I’m like a kid sometimes.

It’s very hurtful.

Here are a few examples

I mentioned I wanted a haircut that day. He thought the salon wasn’t very good and wanted me to use his barber instead. His barber is excellent. I understood his reasoning, but I still wanted the freedom to make my own decision. It turned into a long discussion about why taking that risk wasn’t worth it.

I accidentally got a drop of his minoxidil in his eye while applying it. I apologized immediately and understood how it happened. We discussed how to avoid it next time, but after I said “I understand,” he kept explaining different techniques. Eventually I got irritated because I already felt I’d learned from the mistake.

He’ll ask if I’ve booked appointments, followed up with my therapist, or completed other personal tasks. I know he’s trying to help, but after enough of these check-ins I start feeling like I’m being monitored instead of trusted.

I appreciate that he cares. But it’s getting extremely irritating and I’m beginning to wonder if it’s because he’s genuinely reminding me because he thought of it or because he doesn’t think I took care of MY OWN personal task. Like booking my own therapist.

He says that if he doesn’t step in, he’ll end up dealing with the consequences later. For example, if I got a bad haircut I’d probably be unhappy for months, or if I neglected my health it would affect both of us.
Which is not true. If I decided to get a haircut at a lesser known place then I would have already mentally prepared if something did go wrong. I wouldn’t complain about it.

A lot of discussion become lessons. What is that?

We’re both introspective people who want to improve ourselves and our relationship, and I know he goes above and beyond to be good to me.
Which is why this is so frustrating. Am I just being ungrateful?
Has anyone else experienced this dynamic?

TL;DR: My husband is an incredibly caring and supportive partner, but he shows love by constantly helping, reminding, and trying to prevent mistakes. I appreciate his intentions, but after I say, “I understand,” he often keeps explaining or trying to convince me. Over time, I feel less like an equal partner and more like I’m being parented or managed. He says he intervenes because he’ll have to deal with the consequences if I make a mistake, while I believe part of loving an adult is trusting them to make their own decisions and learn from their own consequences. We both love each other and want to fix this, but we can’t figure out how to balance support with autonomy. Has anyone successfully worked through a dynamic like this?
