Macbook Laptop requirement for Bioinformatics [help]

Hello! I'm an incoming bioinformatics student at WUR.

I checked the laptop requirements on WUR Support but still have one question. I'm deciding on buying a new laptop, and from what I understand, Macs need to run a Windows virtual machine for most tasks. My question is: do ARM-based Macs (M1, M4, etc.) work for bioinformatics, or is it only Intel Macs that are supported?
