Is this real FP&A?

Questions:

  1. Is this really FP&A?
  2. Should I start looking for a new job already?

Context:
Just started a new role at a large transport/infrastructure operator, and my title is Budget Management Analyst.

I’m wondering if this role is really FP&A, as it seems like I’ll only be doing opex and capex budgeting, some variance analysis (budget vs actual vs forecast), and some dashboarding. No management reporting at all.

Here’s my job scope:
- Prepare monthly performance reports, variance analyses, and management dashboards covering operating and capital expenditure for the division
- Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning for opex and capex
- Analyze cost data to identify trends, risks, and cost-saving opportunities
- Assist in cost control initiatives and budget utilisation tracking for operating and capital spend
- Business partner with engineering and operations teams to gather financial inputs and provide analytical support
- Support audit processes and compliance with internal controls
- Improve reporting efficiency through process automation
- Perform ad-hoc cost analyses and projects as assigned

Thanks in advance!
