My college made attendance compulsory for lectures even in 4th year

I'm currently in my fourth year of B.Tech, and our on-campus placement drive is about to begin. However, my college has suddenly become very strict about lecture and practical attendance. It's frustrating because this leaves students with much less time to prepare for placements.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think such a decision is justified, or is it unfair to students during such a crucial phase of their careers? I'd love to hear your opinions, especially from people who have already gone through placements.
