Marisci Experience
MariSci has been hard for me but it's mostly really the social part of MariSci that makes you struggle. Most of the teachers are good at what they do, some of them even offer teaching one on one for you to understand. Of course some of them have issues but really the thing is most of the issues in MariSci don't end up reported or are left unaddressed most of the time. The system for reporting is convoluted, along with the fact most of the people handling the issues are way too busy to even try to handle it. A few teachers are willing to listen to you and your problems though which is nice too. The social hierarchy in MariSci usually works with who's the most popular, most outgoing, or most socially active with a "good" reputation. In my experience most friend groups literally act like factions, it goes to the point where sections would be bundled up by friend groups which usually makes the sections be "unfamily like" and that's to be expected. What frustrates me more is that popularity matters more rather than impact of people most of the time, although there's some popular people for their abilities.
Cheating's prevalent sadly, this has been the case since COVID I'd say... People taking photos of test papers, sign language, and other forms of cheating never seem to stop, perhaps that's just the culture of my batch. It is concerning though, I'm not a squeaky clean student, far from it, but at some point you realize if you want to be better as a student and as a person you have to build your integrity along with your utmost effort in studying even if you aren't passionate to do it.
I've known a lot of people who struggled to adapt to MariSci not because they aren't capable of keeping up but because of the time, effort, workloads, and on top of that the issues that come with the school itself. My batch has had a lot of people in it who genuinely ruined others for the sake of just being a really awful person. Which left a lot of people having the wrong impression on some people who has good character outside of the issue they were involved with. Most of the time the people who ruin others got away with it, never expelled, never suspended, or barely held accountable.
The good in MariSci is the quality of education that although not DOST accredited, still pretty good. They have fun subjects too, mostly when you enter the later years. A lot of the teachers are really nice and lenient but as usual the students usually abuse it too much. They do have a lot of clubs too that are of good selection.
Overall MariSci as a school isn't an entirely bad one, it would be unfair to the people working hard to keep it afloat to say it is as I can see them trying their best at least. I think its mostly a victim of the systems put in place and the genuine lack of time or people to be able to manage issues that hamper it to becoming a really good school. Along with a borrowed campus, limited funds, and not being DOST accredited as a school. Shoutout to the awesome teachers and staff that are nice whether it rains or shines, you guys deserve all the love you can get!
