Strange nerve sensations that have kicked in a few months AFTER extraction?

I had my lower left wisdom tooth extracted at the beginning of May. It seemed fairly uncomplicated at the time and within a week or two the jaw pain had gone and I could eat pretty much normally. But after about a month, I started getting strange sensations when eating. A kind of "stretching" feeling in my cheek, and now more recently, sensations of coldness when I'm chewing, like I've dropped ice cream on my cheek or something! It's been getting worse over the last few days and is quite concerning as I would have thought that usually, nerve injuries are instant? I'm really worried and not sure what to expect. I'm going to book a dentist appointment for this week, though a dentist in the r/askdentist subreddit said there's no point as nothing they can do.

I guess my question is -- has anyone else had strange nerve sensations kick in about a month *after* the surgery, gotten worse for a bit, and then gotten better over time? Having a really hard time dealing with the anxiety of not knowing.

Thanks so much.
