politics: where to start researching?

good afternoon! i wanted to post sa r/philippines but was not sure if it is appropriate. as a bisaya college student who only recently moved here in 2024 (born and raised in USA up until age 18), since my parents only taught me english growing up i am having quite a hard time understanding where to start when researching and building/defending my political opinions, most content, media, and news i come across is in tagalog/i am not sure if the sources are reputable/unbiased. in terms of how i fell in america i would consider myself liberal (pro-choice, anti-capitalism, pro-palestine, pro-lgbtq rights, blm, etc). i hope this is an okay ask, if there's a more appropriate place to post this please direct me there. i am uncomfortable asking any family members for help regarding this topic because they are very heavily pro-duterte
