Uncle died without a will but had life insurance with my mom's and his dad's name on it

My uncle died a few days ago and we were trying to help with what he left behind. As far as we know he left no will but he had a life insurance policy with my mom's name and his father's name on it. Two of the biggest things my family have been fighting over are his cars. He wasn't married ans had 2 children. Would his possessions still go to probate court? What happens now?
