Why do you not want to make it more obvious to men you are interested in?
I must have seen 100s of posts on Reddit where a woman asks if men pick up on hints or she should be more obvious. I am yet to see a response from a man where the answer is not "yes, be more obvious".
Common downsides for men in trying to pick up cues (as reported from the responses) are: we are oblivious and don't pick them up; if we do pick up something we worry we are wrong and don't want to be humiliated/seen as creepy/seen as a predator for acting on a misread subtle cue; cold approaching women who aren't interested may be threatening so many guys will now avoid it; many women report experiences where men they thought were just friends hit on them inappropriately when they became single/were drunk/were otherwise vulnerable and this understandably comes across as creepy and unwanted.
I am conscious that there must be some reason that women ask this over and over and have a tendency instead to go for hints/cues but as a guy I am not sure what they would be - can you help me understand?
What are the downsides to women of being more straightforward with a person they are interested in starting a romantic relationship with? Is it just a fear that they will be seen as too "forward" and getting judged? Is there a risk of violence/danger that I don't see? Is it that society has coded that men should be doing the chasing so if women are too forward it doesn't feel romantic like people imagined? Or that if he is not picking up hints he isn't into you enough to take a risk? Or that he just isn't a risk-taker or perhaps emotionally intelligent enough to pick it up in general and that is unattractive?
I can still remember every one of the small number of times in my life a woman (or in fairness another man) has made it crystal clear that she was into me and I have never felt anything other than shocked, flattered, and grateful she told me. Every time ended either with a relationship/romantic liaison or at the very very worst me thanking them, explaining I was in a relationship or whatever and then walking around all week feeling like the bees knees because someone made me feel attractive and desirable. Why on earth would I then make that person feel bad about it?
