Very strong depression and anxiety showing up after not taking my medication correctly

This post may irritate some people because this situation has clearly arisen from my own silly decisions.

I have been on 20mg on Vortioxetine (Brintellix) for the best part of a year now. Before that I was on 10mg for about 6 months and about 15mg for 3-4.

Over the past year there have been maybe four instances where I’ve stopped taking my daily medication for up to five days. This was due to a combination of my terrible disorganisation and the fact I work 12 hour shifts - I had very little time to go to the pharmacy and collect them. So it ended up a couple of times being 5-6 days without taking meds and then jumping back on them again for another month.

Well I’ve just gone back on my meds after another 6 day stint and I’m now on the 5th day of re-taking my meds daily and holy SHIT do I feel depressed and anxious. I’m overthinking everything: my relationship with the woman I love, I’m overthinking my future, my job, etc. I feel so anxious, depressed. You know there’s the kind of depression that is like a mild hum in your life, the kind of stuff that can come and go and with therapy you can understand it more? And then there’s the depression which is likr a PHYSICAL weight on your shoulders that actually feels like an illness - I am feeling that at the moment. This came about in the last couple of days.

Yes I KNOW this is my fault. Please don’t tell me. I won’t be doing this again that’s for sure.

Just wanted to share this. My plan is to continue taking my pills. I will bounce back. No point in talking to the GP - I’m from the UK and you have more luck speaking to a unicorn than you do your own GP about any medication qualms.

Cheers!
