WebPT vs SPRY for Small PT Clinic: 5 Years on WebPT, Now 6 Months on SPRY
If you're searching for a WebPT alternative for a small physical therapy clinic, this is the post I wish existed when I was making this decision six months ago.
I wasn't unhappy with WebPT. It's a solid PT EMR and it's been around since 2008 for a reason. But I slowly realized our clinic was running three separate tools just to keep one workflow going. Documentation in the EMR. Billing in a second system. Manual eligibility check before every new patient. Every handoff between those tools was where small errors crept in and where I was losing time I didn't have.
That's what finally pushed me to compare WebPT vs SPRY instead of just complaining about it.
The AI scribe difference is bigger than I expected.
My notes used to follow me home most nights. With SPRY the scribe writes directly into the chart I'm already working in. No copy-pasting from a separate scribe app into the EMR. I'm finishing notes during the visit or right after, not at 9pm.
This matters because WebPT added AI scribing in 2026 through a partnership with a company called Comprehend Health. Two vendors in your documentation pipeline instead of one. The APTA's 2025 practice advisory on ambient scribes specifically recommends tools built natively for a specialty's clinical context over adapted third-party models. WebPT's setup is the second thing. SPRY's is the first.
Billing and clean claim rate.
Eligibility checks, documentation, and claim scrubbing all run off the same patient record in SPRY. We hit above a 95% clean claim rate by month two. Before the switch, denied claims were something we found out about after submission, not before. That's the actual difference in how the billing is architected, not just a feature bullet point.
To be fair to WebPT.
If you're a larger practice with complex multi-payer Medicare billing, their compliance tooling has had almost 20 years to mature. 8-minute rule alerts, MIPS reporting, NCCI edits, it's all there and it works. I wouldn't tell a 15-provider group to switch based on my experience alone.
But if you're a solo PT or small outpatient clinic currently paying separately for a PT EMR, an AI scribe for physical therapy documentation, and a billing system, SPRY consolidating that into one platform has been the real difference. Not just a nicer interface.
